Welcome to the Old Kiln Forge

Feel free to push open the stable door to the forge and come in!

Take a deep breath and relax. You’ll immediately smell and hear the evocative odours and sounds of a working forge. You’ll feel the warmth from the fires and hear anvils ringing as hammers work the hot steel with sparks flying. Steam is rising from the water trough as the metal is cooled and smoke rises from wood as the finished items are trued……

Welcome to the Old Kiln Forge.

We are a small group of Blacksmiths based near Farnham, Surrey at the Tilford Rural Life Centre. We enjoy hand crafting traditional and contemporary ‘wrought ironwork’ and artistic blacksmithing.

We mostly work to commission on bespoke designs and have a wide portfolio of forged steel interior and exterior items with styles from traditional to very contemporary.

After a few years dithering, we are trying to create a web presence with this blog. We hope to be able to show you a gallery of our work to show off what we can do and also to keep you all up to date with what we are currently excited about doing………

Bear with us though, as we learn how all this IT stuff works, eh?

In the mean time, if you need to contact us please just comment our pages/posts!

More soon!

Nick, John and Andy.

  2. Hi guys – just wanted to get a rough idea of price for fireside tools and fire baskets for Life in Farnham magazine interiors page. OK to use a couple of images from the website? And how do you like being on the front cover this month? 🙂

    • Hi Kat.
Thanks very much for putting us on the cover – we’ve had a few hits and comments! 🙂
Fire tool sets range from about £270 to £600, Firebaskets from £450 upwards. All are bespoke made to individual customer’s design requirements…
And of course, please use what ever you like! Thank you very much! If there’s something else you need – let us know and we’ll do our best to sort it out.
      Hope to see you soon…

Can you use a kiln like a forge?

    • Hi Kevin.
Yes, I don’t see why not.
Most Kilns would probrably not get to the full temperatures needed for everything, but I’m sure you’d get steel hot enough to do basic forging.
Many blacksmiths use Gas powered Furnaces or ovens to heat steel.

Hi there, just wondering if you would make us a sign for our yard?! We were wanting our last name, “The Doering’s” and can’t find anywhere that makes them. We have a big rock out front and would like something to hang or stand in front of the rock?! Thanks for you info, you do amazing work!!

    • Hi Krista,
We’d be very happy to help.
Email me on and we’ll exchange details and discuss what we can do for you.
Many thanks for your interest and kind comment.
